Joan's Musings

October 11,2013

A beautiful Autumn day here in Colorado.

I really need to be a little more diligent with this blog.  It isn't that I haven't been creating, it is just that I haven't been taking photos and writing. I will try to update it soon.

I have a new interest (as if I needed another one).  The Sasha Dolls (Sasha Morgenthal) have caught my fancy, what started out as "I just want one" ended up being MANY.  I have been enjoying them and so it is okay!!

I am going create another blog just for the Sasha Dolls, this one will remain for all my other creations.  I will post the name of it later.

A little note

nJoan's Musings

Always amazes me how time flies.  I have finished a couple UFO's.  A kit I bought in Cody, WY several years ago, the nice thing about it is that  I did free motion feathers for the first time on a quilt.  I have practiced them many times, but this was my first try on an actual piece, I am quite pleased with how it turned out and am anxious to use them again.  I also finished a quilt I started in Paula Nadlestern's class a few years ago, it is pretty to look at, however, I am not real happy with the workmanship, the pattern left a lot to be desired. One of the projects I am currently working on is my crazy quilt.  I have the 9 blocks up on my design wall and am trying to decide on sashing, I have several colors of dupioni silk, so have cut 2.5"strips and they are being  auditioned.  I was planning to put the blocks on point, it didn't work out, so I rehung them horizontal and vertically with sashing options.

I am also working on a spirit cloth quilt, all the blocks or pieces are from recycled items, it is becoming a personal diary, as I am embroidering details of daily happenings on the pieces.  The pieces have all been hand sewn.  The inspiration is from Jude Hill's Spirit Cloth, such an interesting site, I took the first on line class and may take another, I enjoy her daily blog.

Knitting socks for Kamryn and Kaleigh, nearly finished.  My next knitting project will be a tam and scarf for myself.

I continue to work on photo shop elements and just recently upgraded to PSE 10.  I continue to go to a small group that meets once a month learning more about the program.  I hope to get a collage worked up before our next meeting.

I have back surgery scheduled for Nov.21st.  Dr.Pettine from Loveland will be doing the procedure.  He will be implanting two Coflex-Fixtures.  Hopefully this will take care of the problem I have dealt with for over 6 years, and I will be ready to go to France again in March.

Photoshop Elements

Joan's Musings
Jan 17,2011
I am currently learning to use my photoshop elements  program.  I have joined a local group, as well as an online group, hopefully this is going to help.  It actually already has, I had PSE7, I never did figure it out, now have PSE8(not quite the latest), but have made progress with it.

My desire is to utilize photos in my textile art, I have one started, and will post when finished.

Joan's Musings  I cannot believe it has been 1/2 year since I last posted, how time flies.  We had a nice 5 months in our 5th wheel at the Voyager RV Resort in Tucson, just a little too long though.  The weather was cooler and wetter than usual.  I didn't seem to get a lot accomplished, I did quite a few items in my machine embroidery class, this helped me brush up a little on the techniques, I hadn't really worked on it for over a year.  The Art Group was pretty much a repetition of  the year before last.  I did do a piece totally free motion machine embroidered, using techniques I learned in Carol Shinn's class.  I will post a picture of it soon, along with a picture of my southwest tote that I made mostly on my machine embroidery.

I am going to try to use the time I have this summer finishing UFO's.  I was actually going to do that last winter as well, but just didn't work out.

We had plenty of winter here in CO during the remaining days in April and May, I thought it would never end, now June is turning out quite nice.

Will post more later
